Andy Sun is Associate Professor and holds the inaugural Iberdrola-Avangrid Professorship in the Sloan School of Management and MIT Energy Initiative, MIT.

Dr. Sun is interested in building new bridges between the theory of optimization under uncertainty, distributed optimization, convexification of nonconvex structures, and control of dynamical systems, and in developing fundamental understanding and new analytical tools for renewable energy integration, power grid optimization, and stability and resiliency of interconnected energy systems and transportation systems.

Dr. Sun obtained a doctoral degree in Operations Research (robust optimization and convex optimization) from MIT. After PhD, Dr. Sun did a one-year postdoc at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY. He was an associate professor in the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology before joining MIT.
