Most spiral galaxies consist of a flat, rotating disk containing stars, gas and dust, and a central concentration of stars known as the bulge. Our galaxy, the Milky Way Galaxy, is a barred spiral galaxy.
Elliptical galaxies have an approximately ellipsoidal shape and a smooth, nearly featureless image.
An irregular galaxy is a galaxy that does not have a distinct regular shape. Irregular galaxies do not fall into any of the classes of the Hubble sequence, and they are usually chaotic to look at, with no nuclear bulge or spiral arm structure
A peculiar galaxy is a galaxy of unusual size, shape, or composition. Unlike irregular galaxies, they do have a shape, but it is generally unique to itself.
