Going over Kepler's Laws before a test
I view teaching and outreach as an essential part of being a professional astronomer. As a teacher, I am a proponent of student-centered learning, and I try to incorporate active learning in my classes. Previously, I have been a TA for both large and small courses. In these experiences, I have given lectures, run discussion sections, and develop and grade homework assignments. I am very enthusiastic about teaching astronomy and physics, and I enjoy working with students. I am also a Fellow for the Cornell Center for Teaching Innovation where I work with TAs from across the university to improve teaching practices.
In addition to teaching, educational outreach is also important to me. Astronomy is largely a publicly funded science, and I feel that it is important to give back to the communities that we serve. I am involved with many outreach activities at Cornell including the Ask an Astronomer website and summer programs for high school students.
