PRIVACY POLICY
Last updated: 14 August 2026
AstraRead is provided by Astrevanta Labs (“we,” “us,” or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains how AstraRead accesses, processes, stores, collects, and shares data.
For privacy questions, contact astrevantalabs@gmail.com.
The short version
AstraRead is a local-first reading and audiobook application. Your library, reading positions, bookmarks, notes, highlights, reading history, settings, and locally imported files are stored on your device.
AstraRead uses the following third-party services:
Google AdMob for advertising
Google Play and RevenueCat for optional Pro/Premium purchases
Microsoft for optional online text-to-speech voices
Open Library for optional book searches
Public catalog, web-novel, dictionary, and voice-download services when requested by you
AstraRead does not require an account. It does not use a separate first-party analytics or cloud crash-reporting service and does not upload your reading history, notes, highlights, or reading statistics.
Information stored on your device
The following information normally remains in app-private storage on your device:
Books and audiobooks you import
Book covers and metadata
Reading and audiobook playback positions
Bookmarks, highlights, underlines, and notes
Reading history, sessions, streaks, goals, and statistics
Collections and favourites
App preferences, themes, fonts, and voice settings
Locally downloaded voice models
Locally generated crash reports
Your optional app-lock PIN, stored as a salted hash rather than as the original PIN
Original imported files, covers, and metadata are not uploaded by AstraRead. If you choose an online voice, only the passage currently being spoken is transmitted as described under “Online voices.”
AstraRead does not use your library, notes, highlights, reading history, or reading statistics to target advertising.
Advertising
AstraRead displays advertisements supplied by Google AdMob. Ads may appear as sponsored cards and as optional rewarded videos that unlock certain online voice features.
When an ad is requested, Google’s advertising SDK may collect and share:
Your IP address, which may be used to estimate an approximate city-level location
Your Android advertising ID, app-set ID, and related device identifiers
Device and app information, such as device model, operating-system version, app version, and language
App and advertisement interactions, including app launches, taps, ad impressions, and video views
SDK performance diagnostics, such as loading time, latency, hang rate, and energy usage
Google uses this information for:
Advertising and measuring advertising performance
Analytics
Fraud prevention, security, and legal compliance
AstraRead does not receive your precise location, and it does not request Android precise- or approximate-location permissions for advertising. Approximate location may be inferred by Google from the device’s IP address.
Google processes this information under its own Privacy Policy, Advertising Policies, and Partner Sites Policy.
Advertising choices
Where required, including in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland, AstraRead uses Google’s User Messaging Platform to display a consent or privacy-options form.
Declining personalised advertising does not necessarily remove advertisements. Google may still provide non-personalised or limited advertisements and process information required for delivery, measurement, fraud prevention, security, and compliance.
You may reset or delete your advertising ID through Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.
An active Pro/Premium entitlement prevents AstraRead from requesting or displaying advertisements. Information previously collected by Google, and information needed to maintain advertising-consent choices, remains governed by Google’s policies.
Pro/Premium purchases
AstraRead offers an optional Premium/Pro upgrade through Google Play. Google processes payments, while RevenueCat helps AstraRead determine whether a Pro/Premium entitlement is active.
AstraRead does not receive or store your:
Card or bank-account number
Billing address
Google account password
Full payment credentials
RevenueCat may receive and process:
An anonymous RevenueCat user identifier
Purchase and renewal history
Subscription or entitlement status
Country, currency, and locale information
Basic device, operating-system, app-version, and store information
This information is used for:
Activating, restoring, and managing Pro/Premium functionality
Purchase and subscription analytics
Detecting purchase errors and maintaining the billing service
AstraRead does not send RevenueCat your name, email address, books, notes, highlights, or reading history.
Purchase information is retained by Google Play and RevenueCat for billing, entitlement restoration, fraud prevention, accounting, and legal-compliance purposes. RevenueCat’s practices are described in its Privacy Policy.
Online voices
AstraRead provides optional online text-to-speech voices.
When you select an online Microsoft voice, AstraRead sends the passage currently being spoken to Microsoft’s speech service. Microsoft processes the text in real time and returns generated audio to your device.
For Microsoft online Read Aloud voices:
The submitted text is used to generate speech.
A randomly generated service token may accompany the request.
The submitted text and generated audio are deleted by Microsoft immediately after conversion.
The transfer is encrypted.
AstraRead does not retain a server-side copy of the passage.
Generated audio may be temporarily cached in app-private storage on your device to improve playback. It can be removed by clearing AstraRead’s app data or uninstalling the application.
Online voices are optional. On-device neural voices and compatible Android system voices process text locally and do not send passage text to Microsoft.
Microsoft’s handling of online Read Aloud data is described in its Microsoft Edge Privacy documentation and Microsoft Privacy Statement.
Book search and dictionary services
Some optional features transmit a search term only after you request the feature:
Open Library: Book-metadata searches send your search terms to openlibrary.org.
Dictionary: Looking up a word sends that word to dictionaryapi.dev. Surrounding passage text is not included.
Wiktionary and Translate: These actions open an external browser or compatible application with the selected word or text. The receiving application and website then apply their own privacy policies.
These features are optional and are used only to provide the requested search, definition, or translation functionality.
Catalogs, web novels, and external websites
When you enter or open an OPDS catalog, web-novel page, or other supported public address, AstraRead sends a request to that address to retrieve the content you requested.
The destination website may receive information ordinarily included in an internet request, such as:
Your IP address
The requested URL
Basic browser or user-agent information
Cookies or site storage where applicable
AstraRead stores reading history for imported web novels locally on your device. It does not upload a combined history of the websites or chapters you have read.
Websites and catalogs operate under their own terms and privacy policies.
Voice-model downloads
When you choose to install an on-device voice, AstraRead downloads the required model files from the source identified in the voice catalog, such as GitHub or Hugging Face.
A download request may expose your IP address and ordinary request information to the hosting provider. After installation, supported on-device voices synthesize speech locally.
Diagnostics
AstraRead maintains its own crash reports locally in app-private storage. These local crash reports are not automatically uploaded.
A local crash report may contain:
The error and stack trace
AstraRead’s version
Your device model
Your Android version
It does not intentionally include your books, notes, highlights, or reading history. Uninstalling AstraRead removes these locally stored reports.
This local crash-reporting system is separate from the limited diagnostic information collected by the Google Mobile Ads SDK, as described under “Advertising.”
Permissions
AstraRead may use the following Android permissions:
Internet and network state: Ads and optional online features
Advertising ID: Advertising delivery, measurement, and fraud prevention
Notifications: Reading reminders and read-aloud playback controls
Biometrics: Unlocking AstraRead when you enable app lock
Foreground service and wake lock: Continuing read-aloud playback while the screen is off
Biometric matching is performed by Android. AstraRead receives only the authentication result and does not receive or store your fingerprint or facial biometric template.
File access is provided through Android’s system file picker. AstraRead accesses only the files or folders you select.
Data security
AstraRead uses reasonable technical safeguards to protect information, including:
App-private storage
An encrypted local database
Salted hashing for an optional app-lock PIN
Android biometric APIs
Encrypted HTTPS, TLS, or secure WebSocket connections for data transmitted off the device
Cleartext network traffic disabled in the application configuration
Automatic Android cloud backup disabled for AstraRead data
No security method can guarantee absolute protection, but AstraRead is designed to minimise off-device data collection and limit access to information required for each feature.
Data retention and deletion
Data stored by AstraRead
Your local library, preferences, reading data, downloaded voices, cached audio, and local crash reports remain on your device until you delete them, clear AstraRead’s app data, or uninstall the application.
Uninstalling AstraRead removes its app-private data. Automatic Android cloud backup is disabled.
Online voice data
Text and generated audio processed by Microsoft’s real-time online Read Aloud service are deleted by Microsoft immediately after conversion.
Purchase records
Google Play and RevenueCat may retain purchase and entitlement records for subscription restoration, billing, fraud prevention, accounting, and legal compliance.
To request assistance with a RevenueCat record, email astrevantalabs@gmail.com. Some transaction information may need to be retained by Google or RevenueCat under their legal and financial obligations.
Advertising data
Advertising information is controlled by Google under its policies. You may reset or delete your Android advertising ID through Android’s privacy settings and may use AstraRead’s available advertising privacy controls where shown.
Search and website providers
External search, dictionary, catalog, hosting, and website providers may retain request information according to their respective privacy policies. Astrevanta Labs does not control their independent retention practices.
Support emails
If you contact Astrevanta Labs, we receive your email address and the information you include in your message. We use it only to respond, provide support, address privacy requests, protect the application, or comply with legal obligations. You may request deletion of support correspondence unless retention is legally required.
Accounts
AstraRead does not provide or require an AstraRead account.
A Google Play account may be used by Google for downloading the application and completing or restoring purchases, but it is not an AstraRead account, and AstraRead does not receive your Google password.
Children
AstraRead is intended for adults aged 18 and over and is not directed to children or minors. Astrevanta Labs does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided personal information through AstraRead, contact us at astrevantalabs@gmail.com.
Changes to this policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated when AstraRead’s features, service providers, legal obligations, or data practices change.
When the policy changes, the “Last updated” date will be revised. Material changes may also be communicated through AstraRead or its Google Play listing.
