"Descriptive poetry, unlike narrative poetry, is known not necessarily for telling a story but for its deep depiction of a person and or persons." This is that. You find yourself looking at the ceiling thinking about them. Instead of reaching for the phone and telling you at 2am I am telling someone else. Someone who will read this and will understand. These are the memories and tales of the people who came in and left my life and all the other things that decided to stay.
I remember being 16 with all these plans of who I wanted to be. You're young and hopeful. Then you grow up and everything crashes around you. You're left looking at nothing and no one but your intentions of finding better, but the thing is you’ll never be able to find yourself, if you’re lost in someone else. So just speak your truth. Even if it scares you. Every part of who you are, not just part of you. Time to stop telling your story in second person and say, “I am getting there.”
I am getting there.
This book of words is half of it. This is not only for me but for strangers and people who feel and never forget. For the past two years I’ve read poetry from my past. Open conversation with a version of myself from long ago. The version of myself who let a guy cheat but promise forever. The girl who broke my heart. To a kid I will never know and a best friend who went astray. Basically, what I am saying is in this time I got to see who I was and all the parts I never laid to rest. So…
Well, here’s your funeral. Thank you for coming.

"Be honest and stay true to yourself," he advises. "The love you want is out there and when you find them, all of this will be worth it."
“We need to have more candid conversations around racial and social issues as a society, as well as more education and awareness to support all with different challenges in order to make our visions come true,” he says. “Intersectionality has played such a big part in my life, so I’m proud I’m at a place where I can help drive these very important discussions.”
