Mission of the project
The greatest nostalgia for many people going to Walt Disney World is the transportation system. The monorails around the Seven Seas Lagoon and to Epcot are the most iconic. There are also the ferries between the Transportation Center and Magic Kingdom as well as the water taxis that take guests to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Buses bring guests from resorts to all of the parks and Disney Springs. More recently, the Skyliner provides gondola rides near the Boardwalk area. Inside the Magic Kingdom, the Walt Disney World Railroad and the People Mover give guests special views of the Disney magic.
In Future World (now, specifically “World Discovery”--one of the three neighborhoods that made up the former Future World) at Epcot, an attraction focused on transportation has been a feature since the park’s opening day (October 1, 1982). The 15-minute World of Motion Omnimover ride educated guests on the history of transportation as well as gave a taste of the future of transportation until January 1996. Test Track, providing speeds of up to 64.9 mph, gave guests an experience of the technology behind automobiles since December 1998. That is, until April 2022 when Disney announced the future attraction for this location at World Discovery (see map below for location of Test Track--the future site of As the World Moves!
