The Directors
Ahyan is a tenth grade student from Westmount Charter School in Calgary, Canada. He enjoys exploring various STEM concepts and strives to shape learning into an enjoyable experience for others. Specifically, he loves the fields of computer and social sciences, hoping to pursue a career in either in the future. He hopes that through his contributions at ASTEMC many will be fascinated by STEM fields. Aside from ASTEMC, he enjoys playing soccer, video games, and chess.
Dhruv is a Grade 10 student at Sir Winston Churchill High School in Calgary, Alberta. He is passionate about STEM and is devoted to his peers about it. Later in life, he hopes to pursue a career in the field of computer science, and wants to help advance the world with technology. In his spare time, he likes to code, play video games, and read.
Gautham is an incoming Grade 10 student who deeply enjoys learning, innovation, and scientific exploration. He enjoys all aspects of STEM and is enchanted by its potential to bring change. Through ASTEMC and the rest of his life, he hopes that his contributions will prove valuable to that change. Otherwise, he enjoys programming, robotics, mathematics, and the occasional YouTube video.
Prateek is a grade 10 student at Sir Winston Churchill High School in Calgary, Alberta. He believes that STEM can do so much to help our world through all the tough times we are going through, and all people deserve a chance to experience it. In his free time, he likes to code, play video games and play basketball.
Raif is a grade 10 student at Sir Winston Churchill High School in Calgary, Alberta. He loves everything about STEM and believes that with a balanced mindset of imagination and realism, STEM can change our world. Outside of school, Raif enjoys playing video games, reading, and playing the guitar.
Shaheer is a grade 10 student from Alberta, Canada who enjoys learning about our world and beyond. He is fascinated with scientific and technological innovation. Shaheer is passionate about equality and diversity within STEM fields and providing equal opportunities for all. Outside of ASTEMC, he likes to play video games, read books, and play sports.
Vivek is an incoming tenth grade student from Calgary, Canada who is fascinated with various aspects of STEM, especially engineering and computer science. He believes that STEM literacy is important for the modernizing world. He hopes to be able to spread this literacy through ASTEMC and other endeavors. Outside of his work here, he enjoys debating, coding, and playing violin!
The Organizational Committee
Cheryl is set to be a full IB high school student next semester, and has many unique experiences working and volunteering in STEM. Her expertise in this field includes but is not limited to a plethora of competitions, events (such as CYSF), and the maintenance of a high science grade throughout junior high. Recently, she’s been researching higher level biology to prepare for a future in medicine. When not preoccupied by school and extracurriculars, Cheryl enjoys playing the piano and guitar, as well as writing her own stories. She hopes to provide insight and knowledge that will make this year’s ASTEMC as rewarding as possible for all contenders.
Edidiong Essienton is a member of the ASTEMC Organizational Committee and is one of the biology content creators. When asked to describe her interest in STEM she attributes her involvement in activities such as the Junior Science Bowl and the Calgary Youth Science Fair to be crucial factors. Alongside colleagues, she hopes to help provide STEM experiences for other youth to foster and inspire growth within the sciences.
Gowrish is a grade 10 student at Seven Lakes High School, Katy TX. He is very interested in STEM, especially in the fields of science, engineering, and technology and would like to share his interest in STEM with others. In the future, Gowrish would like to pursue a career in biomedical technology, and help the medical field advance with the usage of technology. In his spare time, Gowrish enjoys reading, playing basketball, and building new things.
Harini is an incoming eleventh-grade student at Sir Winston Churchill High School in Calgary, Alberta. She enjoys learning about science and is passionate about sustainable living as well as renewable energy. In her spare time, she likes to skateboard, play her ukulele, and cook.
Joshua is a soon-to-be full IB student going into grade 10 next year. An accomplished logistics manager in several different volunteer and paid positions, his unique skillset is deeply applicable to a variety of different things. His background in STEM includes the maintenance of a high science average throughout his school days, as well as entering (read: placing at) several prestigious STEM competitions. In his spare time, he likes to play his clarinet and read. With his specialized background, Joshua hopes to make your experience at ASTEMC the best that it can be.
With a passion for reading and spending time with her family and friends, Khushi brings valuable skills and asserts them into making ASTEMC as exciting as possible. Entering grade 10 this September, she can't wait to get back into the classroom and learn more about science. She has worked with different organizations throughout her community, and has also participated in any math and science competitions she can find!! Khushi is excited to share her knowledge and experience with others, and to spark the interest of STEM in students across Alberta.
Neil is an incoming Grade 10 student at Western Canada, who hopes to be able to enrich the learning experiences of youth all across Alberta. As someone immersed in STEM, he is regularly involved in both science and math opportunities. In the future, he wishes to enter a career in the scientific field of medicine. Whenever he has time, Neil can often be found competitively debating or opening a science fiction novel.
Reyhan Habib is a sophomore student in Calgary, who is intrigued by sciences of all sorts, particularly economics and biology. In uncertain times, among them today, Reyhan has been a proud supporter of rapid innovation and mass distribution of scientific technologies. The rest of the world depends on science; we need it in all aspects of life, recognized or not. Through the Alberta STEM Challenge, Reyhan looks forward to working with youth to captivate interest in the sciences, promote the importance of the field, and foster various links between academia and status-quo, in order to better understand the world around us. Aside from his work in this event, Reyhan is a passionate public speaker, engaging in both debate and speech, a participant in cross country and track and field, and a volunteer in the local community. In his free time, Reyhan enjoys traveling, indulging in new cuisine, and reading.
Yichen Liu is a 10th-grade student attending Western Canada High School’s full IB program for the 2021-2022 school year. Holding an intense interest in all things science, technology, engineering, and math, Yichen has plenty of experience with STEM challenges. His most recent achievements include individual first place in the CSSC and second place with his team in Sunshine Education Challenge. He is excited to be working with the bright young minds of the ASTEMC team to advance the future of STEM.
