About Us:
We are a Decision Making lab that aims to explore our scientific, personal, and societal assumptions using the most appropriate methods to answer our research questions.
A primary purpose of the Assumption Lab is an introspection into ourselves and our beliefs, both as people and as scientists.
Core Values:
Don't make assumptions.
Identify the assumptions you are making and investigate them.
Use the strongest methods to investigate those assumptions scientifically.
Q: What kind of research is done at the Assumption Lab?
A: There is no single topic investigated in the Assumption Lab. We explore questions related to how the human mind works about as broadly as possible. Our goal is, wherever possible, to understand causality more than associations.
Q: Do I have to preregister all research that comes out of the Assumption Lab?
A: Yes. The easiest person to fool is yourself. Be open and honest with what you think and how you expect to find it.
Q: Do I need any previous research experience to join the lab?
A: NO! You do not need any previous lab experience or class experience to join the lab.
Q: Do I need any previous statistical experience to join the lab?
A: NO! You don't need any experience at all.
Q: As a research assistant, what are the time and work commitments?
A: Each research assistant takes on two to three projects at a time, and we meet once a week, alternating between lab meetings and one-on-one's with Dr. Protzko.
