OPERATIONS
Sign in on the sheet in the studio when you arrive for your shift.
If you have a question for Greg, and he is busy with a student, come to a place where he can see you but do not interrupt.
Starting 10 minutes before class starts, continuing to 10 minutes after class starts, focus on being in the hallway near the front door so you can get arriving students to their tables, and retrieve students for parents. If there are two assistants, one is always at the door greeting students, and the other can be in the studioo. You can rotate if you like. If only one assistant, only get things for students (like iPads, pencils etc) when you are positive no one is arriving, and only do it for 1 minute tops before returning the the hall. When things are active and students are coming and going, tell students that you will get their supplies after the arrival time. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT AN ASSISTANT IS WAITING TO GREET EVERY STUDENT AND PARENT. Greg will often be too busy with adults and would prefer to not be distracted.
After all students are seated, you can begin to get supplies. When supplies and ipads have been distributed, begin to engage with students. Prioritize new students, then younger students. Pull up a chair, don’t hover over.
Ask to see what they are working on.
Compliment their work, pick out something specific that you like or that is well done.
Offer suggestions, almost all young new students need help learniing to use their arm and shoulder to make long smooth or straight lines.
ONLY COMMUNICATE INFORMATION THAT YOU HAVE LEARNED HERE, DO NOT IMPROVISE OR MAKE UP TECHNIQUES.
DO NOT STAND AROUND!
Students may talk, but not constantly. If they get too loud, ask them to quiet down
if you see a mess on the floor, pick it up or get one of the vacuums and clean the area.
Students should stay at their tables most of the time.
Students are not permitted to take materials from the supply table.
Do not open a new paint jar or new paper towel pack until the one we are currently using is finished. When a paint jar gets low, open the new one, drain what’s left of the old one into it. Wash the old one out and bring it to the recycle bucket in the storage room.
The large foam core paint boards should have 4 clips attached to the long side corners. They never need to be removed. When you are removing a students art, just open the clip a little and slide it to the side. DO NOT REMOVE THE CLIPS FROM THE PAINT BOARDS.
Do not leave water bottles laying around the studio and storage room. If you need a water, be sure to empty the bottle and put it in the recycle bucket when finished.
At the end of class, Assistants are responsible for making sure there are 13 iPads, 5 iPad pencils and 4 timers in there proper spots.
Tidy up chairs at the end of each shift.
