In order for a family to participate at ASA, at least one parent must be a Parent Member in good standing.
To be in good standing, a Parent Member must do the following:
Agree to uphold the ASA Bylaws, Principles, and ASA policies.
Sign the ASA liability waivers, which can be reviewed in Section 13. The liability waivers are signed at registration.
Agree to serve in a volunteer capacity. Every family contributes one mentor for a class, but parents often also serve on a committee or the Board of Directors.
Agree to attend four parent meetings. Parent meetings can include Park Days, Fall and Spring meetings, mentor trainings, and Spark Nights.
Agree to join the ASA communication channels and turn on notifications so they are aware when things are announced. The current communication channels include a group.io email server and an ASA Slack workspace.
Each year, agree to review the cornerstone information that ASA is built on. These can be found in Section 1.
Each student youth (ages 11-18) who attends ASA is considered a Student Member. In order to participate in classes or activities, a student must be considered in good standing.
To be in good standing, a Student Member must do the following:
They must agree to uphold the ASA bylaws, policies, and principles. Parents take the lead in ensuring that students understand what they are agreeing to, in addition to ASA leadership sharing these ideas during retreats, classes, and other school-wide activities.
They must be registered to attend at least one class for the current school year.
They must be the child of a Parent Member. The Parent Member must also be in good standing.
While we love families that stay at ASA for a long time, we understand that there are times when a family needs to find other ways to educate their children.
If the decision to leave ASA occurs at the end of the school year before the Family Fee is due, no additional action is required.
If a family chooses to withdraw from ASA after they have paid the Family Fee but classes have not started yet or at any time during the school year, a parent must inform a member of the Board in writing as soon as possible. Doing so in a timely manner allows the Board as much time as possible to adjust volunteer responsibilities and open up the waitlist to a new family (if prior to the start of the school year).
If a family wishes to rejoin ASA, they must fill out the form to place their name on the waitlist.
The Board maintains a confidential record of anyone who leaves ASA not in good standing. This information should be referenced and revised if a member is to be reinstated.
On rare occasion, a parent or student’s membership may be revoked so that they are no longer in good standing.
