I have over thirty-five years of educational experience. I began my professional work as a teacher in public schools in Washington State. After four years, I moved to Utah, where I have taught for well over thirty years.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Education from Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington, and my Master of Arts in Educational Psychology from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
I hold teaching licenses in General Education (K–6), Special Education (K–12), and Early Childhood Education. My endorsements include English as a Second Language (ESL), Mild/Moderate Support Needs, and Complex Support Needs. Additionally, I have teaching experience at both the K–12 and higher education levels.
During my work in the Provo City School District, I have taught and also helped develop educational programs that assist students at all levels of educational attainment.
As an adjunct professor at Brigham Young University for seven years, I instructed Secondary Education majors to develop teaching skills designed to prepare them to work with under-resourced student populations.
My bachelor's and master's degrees have prepared me to meet the needs of diverse populations of students, from kindergarten through college. My work is to better prepare students for success in school, for their college and career outcomes, and for adult responsibilities.
I have helped create and lead tutorial programs and Student Success services at the high school level, and have worked as a tutor helping students in school, after school, and community settings—including in their homes as a homebound student instructor. I also helped design, develop, and lead post-high and transition services in the Provo City School District.
I have worked with adult education services and assisted students in continuing education, employment, and community access. My understanding of community services has prepared me to assist students through local colleges and universities, and with several other community agencies, including employment services, in order to better support students in their postsecondary plans.
As a trainer for technology integration in the Provo School District for five years, my fellow trainers and I instructed more than 100 educators to effectively use technology in their instruction. I have also served as an assistive technology specialist in the Provo District and as a member of the State of Utah Assistive Technology Team.
I am a husband and father. My wife, Patricia, and I live in Provo and are the parents of five adult children.
