AsperDames is a Facebook support group for autistic women/nonbinary adults born before 1975.
Formal and self-diagnosed autistic people are welcome.
Originally founded in Canada in 2018, we have grown to include members worldwide.
We are learners, some mentors and some (self-)advocates.
We all have valuable lived experience and wisdom to contribute, in our online community.
We are NOT a support group for parents, caregivers, service providers and researchers of autistic people. There are many other groups for this.
Before 2016 there were very few online spaces for us.
We offer support to older autistic women/nonbinary adults.
We recognize that many of us were previously mis-, under- or very late-diagnosed (over the age of 40).
In AsperDames, we can show up as our authentic selves, encourage each other, grow older together, and share the wisdom we have acquired.
We offer informal online meetings every two weeks for our members.
Areas of interest and concern include;
aging
sensory challenges
relationships
mental and physical well-being
(self-)employment
retirement planning and decisions
disability in society and in law
housing
While we welcome respectful debate and encourage a spirit of collaboration, we don't permit discussions about vaccine safety, autism 'causes,' 'treatments' or 'cures'.
