The aSMR Lab(artificial intelligence & System Modernization for Reactors Lab.) is dedicated to making nuclear reactors safer and more autonomous through the fusion of experiments and AI. We study the thermal-hydraulic safety of reactors, uncover fundamental boiling heat transfer phenomena, and develop machine intelligence that modernizes how reactor systems are analyzed, monitored, and operated.
Our research spans fundamental thermal-hydraulic experimentn, system-code transient analysis, non-invasive acoustic- and vision-based AI diagnostics of boiling, generative and agentic AI for accelerating nuclear analysis, and AI-integrated technologies for autonomous and flexible operation.
Please browse our website to explore our research, view our publications, meet the team, or contact us — undergraduate interns and graduate students are always welcome.
Our lab published non-invasive boiling visualization by generate AI from sound alone — a no-prior generative model that turns external acoustic signals into non-intrusive visualizations of boiling surfaces that cannot be optically observed. [Link]
