We warmly welcome you to the second issue of the ASME Victoria Bulletin.
We have enjoyed bringing this edition together and speaking with colleagues about the work they are doing across different music education settings. These conversations are a reminder of the generosity within our community and of the importance of sharing practice and staying connected.
Term 2 is often one of the busiest times for music in the school year, with performances, assessments, rehearsals, and music camps bringing months of dedication and preparation to fruition. Among the most rewarding of these experiences are concerts, which allow us to recognise our students’ efforts and share in their developing musicianship. One of my favourite concert moments is when the final note hangs in the air before the audience responds, letting us appreciate what has been achieved, what has been shared, and all that has gone into bringing the performance to that point. Such occasions reflect the broader significance of making music together, as we support our students in deepening their relationship with music, building friendships, and creating meaning that extends beyond the performance. There is much to celebrate in these experiences.
As the teaching term draws to a close, this issue offers an opportunity to reflect on recent ASME Victoria activities and to turn our attention to the ideas, events and possibilities shaping music education more broadly.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this issue, and to the educators and advocates whose work continues to affirm the importance of music education. Through teaching, research, and advocacy, we help create valuable pathways for people to learn, participate in, and be enriched by music.
