Practice with a debate resolution

Our first session of the 2023-2024 school year!

In our first session of the school year, the more experienced members of the ASM Speech & Debate Club explained the different debate events and rules to the new members.

Members also did the following practice debate

1. $100,000,000,000 USD have been given to the U.S. government

2. Break into groups of four (4)

3. Within each group:

   1. Two (2) members will have to persuade the United States government to allocate this money toward K-12 education

   2. Two (2) members will have to persuade the government of the United States to allocate this money toward defense (military) spending

4. Planning: Five (5) minutes

5. Debate: Six (6) minutes

   1. Three minutes for each side

6. Open Forum: Ten (10) minutes

The resolution that will be debated is...

Artists have an obligation to adhere to ethical guidelines when creating their works. 

Apart from preparing the resolution, some debaters have been signed up to Impromptu Speaking and Original Oratory.

In preparation, the members that are not attending the May 2023 NESDA tournament are supporting the participants by helping with flowing, contentions, research, and providing feedback.
