Neural Systems Quantification

How the brain works and why does it stop working is a fundamental question that mankind seeks for generations. Quantification of neural network behavior in the brain in response to internal and external stimuli is an open research problem. Number of brain interfacing technologies, such as Microelectrode Arrays and Optogenetics provide capability to interact with brain, however limited tools are available to decipher useful information from the data produced through these technologies. My research work has produced number of software tools that can assist in making sense of some of the data generated through aforementioned technologies.

NeuroSigX

A free software tool to analyse Brain date captured using 60 MEA systems. This is used to analyse the changes in functional behavior of the brain in response to stimuli such as pharmaceuticals, virus, etc. The software is developed in Matlab.

ICountX

A free software tool for automatic egg/larva counting. This is used for ecological and environmental studies to keep track of different species of insects. A mobile version of the software is also available.

ITrackX

A free software tool to analyse the flying trajectory of insects. This software tool is used to analyse modification in the physical behavior of the insects in response to the change in environmental or physiological conditions. The software is used to analyse mosquito behavior in response to viral infections such as Zika, Dengue and West Nile viruses.

Human Cognition Quantification

UNDERSTANDING COGNITION, STATE OF MIND and its relationship with the PERFORMANCE of an individual as well as team is quintessential for the success of any operation in organisations including civil and military. Eye movement dynamics act as a valuable index of mental workload and cognition. Eye gaze and fixations offer unique insight into the mind as they reflect the current focus of the individual’s attention, amount of cognitive processing, attention and fatigue. Team state monitoring based on temporal gaze patterns show the team state dimensions such as cognitive attention, workload and shared understanding. Complex operations require teams to detect and recognise pertinent cues, make decisions and solve problems. Our capabilities can generate a unified picture of the COGNITION, ATTENTION, FATIGUE and SITUATIONAL AWARENESS that could be tailored to the desired operations and/or applications.

iPupilXD

iPupilXD is human cognition quantification framework for multi monitor desktop environments. The framework is validated using GazePoint trackers however any other trackers with open API could be integrated. The system is capable of monitoring individuals as well as teams simultaneously and in realtime. This is great tool for training assessment and after action review.

iPupilXM

iPupilXM is mobile pupil monitoring system for human cognition quantification. Similar to iPupilXD can provide realtime quantification of human cognitive behavior both for individuals as well as teams. This is a great tool for monitoring human factors including cognitive load, situational awareness, attention, concentration, etc. Due to mobile nature of iPupilXM, it is equally applicable for indoor as well as outdoor dynamic environments. iPupilXM is validated using Pupil Labs wearable eye tracking system.

iPupilXH

iPupilXH is built on top of iPupilXM framework to provide real time Haptics feedback at the detection of compromised situational awareness during training and/or actual operations. This tool is suited to industry and military operations where alertness and high situational awareness is extremely important.
