Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the deadline for submitting my application?
The 2022 ASII program application will close at 11:59 PM (GMT+8) on Sunday, December 12, 2021. In order to avoid technical glitches or other problems due to issues such as internet access, we strongly advise you to complete the application early.
Q: I have reviewed the application requirements, but I'm still unsure if I'm eligible to apply for the program. What should I do?
We encourage you to begin the application! As you answer the questions honestly and thoughtfully, we hope it will become clear if this program is right for you.
Q: I am a citizen or permanent resident of an eligible nation, but don’t currently reside in my country of citizenship/residency. Am I eligible to apply for the program?
We expect you to stay in your country from February to November 2022 since you need to cooperate with stakeholders in the field.
Q: If I applied last year and was not selected, can I apply again this year? Can I apply in future years?
Absolutely! We welcome applicants who were not selected last year to apply again, as long as you still meet the eligibility criteria. Previous applications won't impact or influence this year's review process. If you are not selected this year, we hope you will apply again in the future.
Q. How are participants selected?
After receiving your first-stage application, the selection process includes the following steps and will take place from December 2021 to January 2022. We are not going to select the most outstanding candidate, but the excellent fit.
‧30-minute Online interview:
We would like to know more about your motivation to join the ASII program, your education project experience, and your plan for next year during the online interview. We will book your one-on-one interview with us by email.
‧Contact with your references:
We will reach out to references on a case-by-case basis.
‧Second-stage Application:
After the online interview and the reference check, the second-stage application form will be sent to those who fit the eligibility criteria by Dec 30. Please submit it within ten days.
‧Announcement of the enrolled participants:
The enrolled participants will be notified by email with workshop-related documents and an agreement before the end of January 2022.
Q. What kind of education issues fit the concerns of the ASII program?
We welcome diverse project content as long as your project can respond to local needs and benefit underprivileged children. You will have individual mentoring sessions to discuss and design the project. To make a long-lasting impact, we do not accept one-time donation projects. The proposed project must be implemented within 2022. A data-driven mindset is highly valued in this program. We encourage you to conduct a field observation prior to discovering the local need before the workshops.
Q. How much time do I expect to spend on the ASII program?
Approximately, you are expected to spend 15-20 hours per month for the workshops, assignments, and mentoring sessions in the first phase, from February to June. During the project implementation period, from July to November, the time cost will follow the project proposal.
According to our experience, it is not easy to run a project on your own. Therefore, we encourage you to think about who will be your potential team members.
Q: When will we receive the program calendar?
The ASII program will run from February to November 2022. Enrolled participants will receive a detailed program calendar before February 11, 2022.
Q: What if I need to miss some sessions?
To join the ASII program, we request you to have perfect attendance at all workshops. Considering the status of all participants, we will organize two classes for you to choose from, one on Thursday one on Saturday, and the date will be confirmed on the enrolment announcement.
Q: How to get the initial resource of the project?
There will be a proposal review committee to decide the awarded project at the end of June. It is essential to have the perfect attendance to pass the proposal review. In 2021, only 4 out of 7 participants’ proposals were approved. Our goal is to support all projects proposed by all participants. Therefore, instead of being competitors with other participants, it is more like you are in a learning group.
Q: I don’t have reliable internet access. Will I be able to fully participate in the program?
You will need access to a computer with a camera and reliable internet connection to participate in the program entirely.
Q: Is the ASII program free?
Participants do not have to pay for the ASII workshops. All the costs will be covered by Calls Over Ridges.
Q: Will participants be paid a stipend?
Participants will not be paid a stipend. If your proposal passes the assessment, we will provide a seed fund of up to 3000 USD for your project. This fund is for the project implementation, not personal use.
Q: Will we have the opportunity to meet in person?
The 2022 program will be fully virtual.
