Soft skills Training for ethnic minority students in Nam Tra My
(Quang Nam, Vietnam)
(Quang Nam, Vietnam)
Context and Issues
In Nam Tra My, an under-developed mountainous district in Quang Nam Province, ethnic minority groups account for more than 80% of the total population. Due to the remote location of Nam Tra My, career orientation programs for students require substantial improvement.
High school students in Nam Tra My do not have frequent access to soft skills training and extra-curriculum activities compared to their peers in cities because these programs are not incorporated into the curriculum.
Understanding the need to equip students with soft skills and counseling to develop personally and orient their future professions, this project aims to strengthen career counseling expertise for teachers and strengthen students' soft skills through workshops.

Learn Phuong's stories
While conducting a project at her former workplace, Phuong acknowledged the importance of extracurricular activities and career orientation for high school students in Nam Tra My to personally develop.
Phuong was charged to implement experts’ soft skills sharing sessions with a focus on communication skills and sexual health education for two high schools in Nam Tra My, which will approach 700 students in total. Her project also offers teacher training for 30 teachers and managerial positions of the two schools, who will work directly with students in terms of career orientation.
With a view to offering a sustainable model to develop students’ future aspirations and soft skills, Phuong’s project is potential in creating a long-lasting impact in Nam Tra My, where students and teachers lack the resources.
She hopes that the project could open the way for more students in underdeveloped areas to be reached out and helped.
