The Asia Spinoza Circle (ASC) is a collaborative platform dedicated to connecting Spinoza scholars across Asia. We bring together researchers who share connections to Asia—whether through their origins in Asian countries, their cultural and intellectual backgrounds, their current institutional affiliations with Asian institutions, or their sustained engagement with Asian philosophical traditions. By creating this inclusive network, we aim to foster intellectual exchange and build a vibrant community that explores Spinoza's philosophy through the rich plurality of Asian perspectives and contexts.
Our Working Group currently comprises six researchers from Korea, China, and Japan, whose collaborative efforts exemplify our mission to advance Spinoza studies through sustained exchange across Asian academic communities.
At the heart of our activities are regular Reading Sessions, where members gather to read and discuss classical texts and cutting-edge papers in Spinoza scholarship. We also host presentations and discussions featuring both our members and invited guest speakers.
Beginning in Summer 2026, we plan to inaugurate the ASC Annual Workshop, which will serve as a focal point for the broader community of Spinoza scholars in Asia. This annual gathering will provide opportunities for sustained scholarly exchange, collaborative research initiatives, and the cultivation of new directions in Spinoza studies.
We welcome inquiries from scholars interested in joining our reading sessions or learning more about our activities.
