Sri Lanka is the birthplace of true cinnamon and the world's largest exporter. In South America, true cinnamon is commonly used in moles and other sauces and rubs.

Ceylon cinnamon is used in Mexican chocolate and other goods or drinks such as horchata, flan, or other familiar favourites.

For this reason, Ceylon Cinnamon is commonly referred to as Mexican cinnamon and although Mexico does grow small amounts of this product it is almost entirely imported from Sri Lanka.
