I wanted to post some breakdown shots of my prop kit used in my stylized tavern scene. This includes specified prop kits, such as wooden objects, weapons, small props, and extras. I used Substance Painter and manually painted and manipulated the textures. You will find many of the props in my scene look a bit different in the final render in terms of color and/or added decals: large banner, shields, wanted posters, maps, etc). I wanted to experiment a bit, while also paying tribute to some of the things that paid a heavy influence in this project. One being Overwatch, as this scene was inspired by the tavern found in the Blizzard World map, and the other being Arcane. I also mentioned it in my stylized tavern official post that I used the Niagara system in UE to create FX found in the scene: torch flames, fireplace flame, and floating dust particles. This was my Capstone project for my first term at Vertex Institution. I made it in six weeks, from May-June 2024. It culminates multiple aspects of other stylized chest models into one. To start on this prop, I first created a mood board full of stylized treasure chests that vary in shape, color, size, and detail work. I took inspiration from games such as World of Warcraft, Overwatch, and Sea of Thieves, amongst many more. I then went into Maya and created the basic high poly outline of my version of a stylized chest. From there, I went into Zbrush and added in all the carves, dents, and other types of damage in the chest. After finishing that, I went back into Maya and created a low poly model around the newly detailed high poly model. From there, I went into Substance Painter to complete baking and texturing! Creating this prop contained a lot of new experiences and techniques for me. I imported the prop and its materials into Unreal Engine and edited the lighting and post-processing volume settings. Finally, I exported high resolution screenshots into Photoshop and made final touches there. Before this, I had no knowledge of Zbrush or Substance Painter, as well as no experience to this extent with a stylized art style. I know there is still much more to learn, but it was a lot of fun to make and a learning process that was worth it in the end!
