Restoring Relationships
Restoring relationships has always been part of my personal and professional life. Growing up, I watched my parents struggle to navigate care for my older brother, who lived with life-impacting developmental disabilities, and also care for my oldest brother and myself. Later in my teen years, I saw again the struggle as my father and grandfather cared for my grandmother during her end of life.
I began my career working in drug rehabilitation and therapeutic communities, but quickly moved to assisting in residential group homes for individuals with developmental disabilities in New Jersey. After relocating to Texas, I continued this work, eventually moving into case management while I worked on my undergraduate and graduate degrees in social work and eventual licensure. I spent the last eleven years working in hospice and home health before moving into hospital social work. During this time, I have also run parent support groups for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and Fathering in Fifteen initiative through KC Maternal Health.
In my work, in hospitals, home health, and hospice, I've developed expertise in CMS guidelines and Joint Comission compliance. I always center patient and family relationships first which helps facilities to maintain compliance and quality patient-care.
