Lesson Program
The Ashland Band After School Lesson Program provides students the individualized instruction and support needed to successfully learn to play a musical instrument. The instructors are professional musicians and teachers who work with students individually or in small group lessons to address each students' unique strengths and weaknesses and provide them the tools to improve and fully experience the joys and developmental benefits of making music.
Who Needs Lessons?
In a rehearsal a large group of musicians develop group skills and learn to play together. With so many students all playing different instruments and different parts at once, individualized instruction is very limited.
In a lesson students received individual instruction suited to their own unique strengths and weaknesses. The lesson teacher addresses any difficulties the student is personally having with their instrument and/or band music so that they are able to be successful in the full band. Not only do students who take lessons excel at playing their instrument and reading music, they have more fun in band rehearsals and are more likely to become musical leaders within their section and continue playing and enjoying music for years to come.
Lessons, rehearsals, and practice at home are the three equally important ingredients for musical success!
Lessons are especially important for students who are feeling behind in band, students who are ahead and want more challenging music, or students who just want to be able to learn to play their band music faster than just practicing on their own at home.
The Ashland Recreation Department in partnership with Sam Thurston (Ashland resident and local music educator) is offering the opportunity for Ashland band students of all ages to sign up for weekly lessons with a professional musician and teacher at their own school in the afternoon or evening.
Lessons are split into 3 sessions:
Fall Session (October 6th-December 23rd)
Winter Session (January 5th-March 27th)
Spring Session (March 30th-June 18th)
Unlike music stores, the Ashland Lesson Program also offers students the opportunity to sign up for small group lessons. Private lessons are more productive and recommended, but small group lessons cost less and are definitely much better than not getting lessons at all.
Fall Session (October 6th-December 23rd)
9 Group Lessons (2-5 students in a lesson) - 30 minute lessons - $175 ($19 per lesson)
9 Private Lessons (one-on-one) - 30 minute lessons - $305 ($33 per lesson)
9 Private Lessons (one-on-one) - 45 minute lessons - $445 ($49 per lesson)
9 Private Lessons (one-on-one) - 1 hour lessons - $585 ($65 per lesson)
