My research aims at addressing the key challenges in the emerging paradigms of smart manufacturing, especially materials on demand manufacturing. Under this paradigm, "intelligent machines" operate autonomously to not only discover the optimal processing conditions but also to characterize the morphology and microstructure (such as defects and phase composition)—critical to ensuring the quality and integrity of custom components. Towards this, some of the critical challenges include (a) integration of smart sensors into legacy machines, (b) leveraging machine-tool signatures to discover the process dynamics, and (c) methodological advancements in data science to handle the uncertainty and nonstationarity in the streaming data.  To address these challenges, my research focuses on innovations in advanced manufacturing technologies, embedded sensors, and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), together with methodological foundations in data science and AI such as streaming data analytics, unsupervised learning, and active learning

My work on change point detection for streaming data and unsupervised image segmentation have been winners/finalists for the best student paper/poster awards at the INFORMS (Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences), IISE (Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers) and ASA (American Statistical Association) conferences.
