The table below reports the number of Google Scholar citations for each of the most frequently used Compustat data items (items cited more than 50 times). “New CCM Item Name” is the new mnemonic for each data item in the CRSP/Compustat Merged (CCM) Database. “Keyset” is a secondary key that represents different output series for Compustat items. “Legacy Item Number” is the superseded legacy Compustat data item number (numeric). The mapping between CCM and Legacy Items are provided in https://www.crsp.org/products/documentation/annual-data-industrial. Some CCM Item Names could be matched to more than one Legacy Item Numbers (with different Keyset values). The Google Scholar (https://scholar.google.com/) citation count represent the number of Google Scholar search results (as of June 2022) for each data item (either CCM Item Name or Legacy CST Item Number). For example, for CHE, we searched: compustat AND “data item che”; for its legacy version (data item #1), we searched: compustat AND “data item 1”.
