"A chemical engineer seeking to engage in research"
Ashis Sutradhar Nitai is originally from Bangladesh, a developing country in South Asia. He is an Erasmus Mundus Scholar, currently enrolled in the "Sustainable Biomass and Bioproducts Engineering" Joint Master’s Program (2024–2026). From September 2023 to September 2024, he worked at Renata PLC as an officer in the Engineering Department.
In 2017, Ashis began his studies in the Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Rajshahi University, where he discovered a strong interest in combining chemistry with engineering through a multidisciplinary lens. He completed both his BSc (2022) and MSc in Engineering (2024) at the same department. His undergraduate studies exposed him to a wide range of subjects and encouraged him to explore how interdisciplinary thinking can lead to real-world applications—particularly in the area of bio-waste utilization for advanced materials. Motivated by these ideas, he focused his BSc project and MSc thesis on the conversion of lignin (from sawmill bio-waste) into functional amphiphilic biocomposites for biomedical applications, earning him the NST Research Fellowship (2022-23) for his contributions.
In 2022, he completed two technical training programs at the Training Institute for Chemical Industries, focusing on "Industrial Process Unit Operation and Process Control Technique" and "Process Simulation using Aspen-ONE Software." Throughout his academic journey, he has actively collaborated with researchers from Bangladesh, Australia, the USA, and South Korea. His research interests lie at the intersection of biopolymers, carbon materials, biocomposites, and nanotechnology, with applications in biomedical engineering, energy storage, and wastewater treatment. His overarching goal is to understand the molecular and surface behavior of biomaterials and harness their potential for use in biotechnology and sustainable engineering.
