Hey there! I’m Abby Carlson. I am a fifth grade teacher in Albuquerque Public Schools. I’m starting my 16th year of teaching like it’s my first. Distance learning has shifted every educator’s priorities, and yet, Social Justice has shifted mine two-fold. The practices I adopt must meet the needs of my students, and they must also forward what our culture expects of educators and education. Yes, I am one teacher, but if you don’t think you’re an agent of change, then you’re not. Be bold. Be vulnerable. Be brave, with me.

Kelly Pearce teaches 7th- and 8th-grade media literacy and 6th-grade pre-AVID at Lincoln Middle School in Rio Rancho, NM. She is a member of her school’s leadership team, is part of the fourth cohort of Teach Plus Policy Fellows, and is a New Mexico Public Education Department Teacher Ambassador. She was the 2019 Teacher of the Year for DreamWakers, a Washington D.C.-based nonprofit organization that brings virtual guest speakers into classrooms. This summer, Kelly completed her administrative licensure program and passed the education administrator test. Her partner, Bryan, also is a teacher. Together they are fur-parents to two cats, a guinea pig and tarantula. During this stay-at-home time, they have been spending a lot of hours running, reading, binging Netflix, and Zooming with family members.
