The Australasian Supply Chain Institute (ASCI) is a professional membership organisation in Australia and New Zealand that focuses on advancing the discipline of supply chain management, logistics, procurement and operations. It functions as a professional accreditation body, offering registration, continuous professional development, and advocacy for supply chain professionals.
ASCI traces its roots to 1964 as a not-for-profit entity in Australia committed to professional learning in supply chain management.
Over time, ASCI incorporated or merged with several organisations including:
Australian Chamber of International Trade (2017)
This consolidation enabled ASCI to broaden its scope and positioning as a peak accreditation body in Australasia.
ASCI’s stated vision is to “professionalise Supply Chain Management” across Australasia.
Its value proposition emphasises:
Recognising and accrediting the achievements of supply-chain professionals through a formal registration scheme.
Providing continuous professional development and learning opportunities.
Acting as an industry voice and advocate for the supply-chain function
ASCI offers a robust Professional Accreditation Scheme, aligned with the guidelines of the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) of Australia.
The scheme enables individuals to register in five “streams”: Supply Chain Management, Integrated Product Support (IPS), Procurement/Supply Management, Operations Management, and Logistics Management.
Levels of registration include Associate, Practitioner and (future) Advanced Practitioner.
Registrants must demonstrate relevant tertiary qualifications, professional certifications and evidence of industry experience, participate in an interview process, adhere to a Code of Ethics, and maintain ongoing Continued Professional Development (CPD).
ASCI’s accreditation scheme is cited as unique in Australasia and globally for supply-chain domains, marking a shift toward treating supply-chain work as a recognised profession rather than purely operational function.
By offering registration, CPD, advocacy and community, ASCI supports career development, workforce capability and raising the status of supply chain functions in business and government.
