History

Ascend Basketball Academy was founded by Nathaniel McIntosh with a clear and powerful vision: to create a program for young people who have a true passion for the game of basketball. From the beginning, his goal was not only to help athletes develop their skills on the court, but also to guide them in building strong character off the court.

Driven by the belief that basketball can be a tool for personal growth, Nathaniel dreamed of a program where discipline, teamwork, respect, and perseverance are just as important as scoring points. Ascend Basketball Academy was created to help young athletes grow into confident, responsible, and resilient individuals, prepared for success both in sports and in life.

Through dedication, mentorship, and a commitment to excellence, Ascend Basketball Academy continues to inspire youth to rise, improve, and ascend to their fullest potential.

Nathaniel McIntosh, Founder

Nathaniel McIntosh is the founder of Ascend Basketball, a nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting young athletes and using the game of basketball as a tool for growth, mentorship, and positive community impact. He competed at the university level as a basketball player and has coached at multiple levels, including university, high school, and junior high programs.

In addition to playing and coaching, Nathaniel is also an active basketball referee for Central Alberta, giving him a comprehensive understanding of the game from all three perspectives—player, coach, and official.

Nathaniel holds a degree in Personal Training, which supports Ascend Basketball’s holistic approach to athlete development by promoting physical health, injury prevention, and long-term wellness. Beyond athletics, he also owns and operates a construction business, demonstrating the leadership, accountability, and work ethic he models for the youth he serves.

Through Ascend Basketball, Nathaniel is committed to empowering young athletes to build confidence, character, and life skills that extend far beyond the court.
