This trip was an amazing opportunity that allowed us to not only get to know each other a little better but the community leaders as well.
We each built long lasting memories and friendships all while making a positive impact on a community that needed help.
Whether it was clearing out a new garden bed, repairing a shed, or huddling around a campfire, we connected with each other on a personal level and learned from the stories and different experiences each of us had to share.
The Community Gardens in Gulfport, MS is an important part of a thriving community and provides access to healthy food and educational opportunities for people of all ages.
We worked on clearing out the gardening beds so that the community could plant produce in time for harvesting season.
Our team got a chance to plant our very own "Michigan Bed" where we planted some green beans, tomatoes, and zucchinis!
A shed in the gardens needed some repairing, our team cleaned out and repaired the shed for use by the gardens.
The Land Trust is non-profit organization working in southern Mississippi to conserve and manage land for plants, animals and people. They strive to save and safeguard land that is vulnerable to change from its natural state.
We cleaned up around the Land Trust office to help prepare them for the upcoming year.
Our team would split up at times to divide and conquer the tasks for the day. Here, some members cleared out flowering beds for an elementary school!
Camp Wilkes was established in 1938 to provide the Boy and Girl Scout Organizations of the Biloxi Bay Area a place to go for an outdoor experience under local leadership.
We wanted to give back to the camp that we stayed at and cleared out some of the cabins and facilities that had been left unattended since COVID hit.
Some of us may have gotten a little side tracked during clean up and took a quick canoe break...
On our last day we invited community leaders that we worked with for a cookout and to say our final goodbyes!
The final day was tearful, but we pondered and cherished the experiences and moments we each had together!
