About
This initiative aims to develop a secure, interactive, and user-friendly election platform for the Augustana Student Association, with a focus on enhancing accessibility, transparency, and integrity in campus elections. The platform is designed to streamline the voting process, ensure fair representation, and provide a seamless experience for all students involved.
Currently, five fellows have been selected to contribute to this project. These individuals are working collaboratively to design, develop, and implement the platform, bringing diverse skills and perspectives to the table. Through this fellowship, they are gaining hands-on experience in software development, digital security, and user interface design, while also learning how to apply best practices for online elections.
The fellows are committed to creating a platform that will set a new standard for ASA elections, and their work is expected to have a long-lasting impact on the way elections are conducted on campus.
Selected Proposal
The selected proposal outlines a web-based voting system for ASA elections, using React, Node.js, and PostgreSQL/SQL, with JavaScript as the main language. The project aims for completion by April 2025.
The platform will include secure login via Augie email, a dashboard listing election positions, and a ranked-choice voting system. Students can view candidate profiles before submitting their votes.
After elections, a results page will display outcomes. Future expansions may include storing past election data and hosting elections for other student organizations, requiring additional resources.
