FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STATEMENT FROM THE ASA PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT ON THE 101st VIKING DAYS
29 September, 2024
Dear Vikings,
As we celebrate the 101st Viking Days, we reflect on the enduring legacy of our campus, a community rooted in faith, resilience, and service. This year's celebration offers us a unique opportunity to reconnect with our past, honor our present, and inspire our future.
The kick-off event and Ole Olympics exemplify our commitment to fostering community spirit. The lawn games, food, and friendly competition remind us of the camaraderie and joy that define our Viking culture. Similarly, the Sailing Into Service initiative showcases our dedication to giving back, partnering with Letters of Love to provide emotional support to children battling illness. This day illustrates our belief that every child deserves to feel loved and supported, embodying the compassionate heart of our institution.
We are also excited to announce that the Augustana Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) will officially open the affinity space, a safe space for students to meet and gather. We invite you to join us for this special ceremony before proceeding to the welcome reception. This initiative underscores our commitment to creating an inclusive environment where all students feel at home.
Augustana’s homecoming is significant as it marks a moment of reflection on our rich history and the contributions of our alumni, who have paved the way for current and future Vikings. Their achievements inspire us to strive for excellence in all endeavors, and their commitment to service echoes the values we hold dear.
As we gather with alumni, friends, and family, let us embrace the opportunity to strengthen the bonds that unite us. We are stronger together as a community! So, head off to the kick-off event, embrace your competitive spirit with the Ole Olympics, uplift and celebrate the new affinity space on campus, and bond over the classic Augie Bowl with your fellow Augustana community at the Feast! Let us continue to draw upon the strength of our diverse backgrounds and the values instilled in us by our Lutheran heritage.
Happy Homecoming, Vikings!
In gratitude and service,
Annie and Prince
