FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STATEMENT FROM PRESIDENT ANNIE JOHNSTON AND VICE PRESIDENT PRINCE ADHIKARI ON ETHIOPIAN NEW YEAR AND THE FIRST HOME GAME OF THE SEASON
26 September, 2024
Dear Vikings,
Tomorrow is a day of celebration for our campus as we come together to honor two significant traditions.
First, we kick off the day with our first home football game of the season! Our Augustana Vikings are ready to hit the field, and your energy and support make all the difference. Game Day is a cherished tradition that unites us as a community, and we encourage everyone to wear their gold, bring your Viking spirit, and cheer on our team with pride.
Later in the evening at 7pm in Augie Green, we gather to celebrate a unique tradition on our campus—Ethiopian and Eritrean New Year. This celebration is a beautiful symbol of renewal, unity, and hope. At Augustana, we take pride in embracing the rich cultural diversity of our students, and Ethiopian New Year is a perfect reminder of the strength that comes from our inclusive community. By honoring this tradition, we deepen our connections and continue to create a campus where everyone feels valued and respected.
Let’s come together tomorrow for a day full of excitement, pride, and celebration of both Viking tradition and the cultural richness that defines our community.
Happy Game Day and Happy Ethiopian and Eritrean New Year!
In gratitude and service,
Annie and Prince
