FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STATEMENT FROM THE PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT ON BLACK HISTORY MONTH AND FIRST DAY OF SPRING 2025 SEMESTER
6 February, 2025
Dear Vikings!
It’s a great day to be a Viking on this first day of Spring Semester classes! To those who were away from campus either taking their time off or studying away, welcome home! If this is your first semester, we hope that you will find a new home at AU, and please always remember that ASA is here for you!
February marks Black History Month, and it is a time to honor the rich history, legacies, and contributions of Black leaders, scholars, and trailblazers. We call on all students to take this month and the way forward for reflection, education, and action, and recognize how Black history plays a pivotal role in the broader narrative of our nation and the world. Throughout the month, several organizations, particularly the African Students Union, Black Students Union, Student Athletes of Color Committee, and the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will be putting out events across our campus to celebrate the unique culture and encourage each of you to take part in these initiatives, listen to diverse perspectives, and actively contribute to building an inclusive and informed campus.
Past semester was a prologue to many new beginnings. Please join us in the celebration of those accomplishments on February 18th, 2025 at 6:30pm in the Hamre Hall, for the first ever ASA Mid Year Update and celebration. This will be a time to learn more about the progress of our administration’s strategic plan and what the way forward looks like. On this night, we will also be honouring some of our stand out community members and the student organizations.
This will be a momentous as well as a busy time at Augustana, as we look forward to another range of accomplishments and celebrations. Wishing you all a semester filled with success, growth, and meaningful connections.
Sincerely,
Annie and Prince
