This means that programs compiled with MSVC + ASan also have the appropriate clang_rt.asan library linked for their target. Each library has a specific use case and linking can be complicated if your program is complex.

Instead of using the llvm-symbolizer binary, you can also pipe theoutput through the asan_symbolize.py script, shipped with LLVM($LLVM_HOME/projects/compiler-rt/lib/asan/scripts/asan_symbolize.py),often included in LLVM distributions. The disadvantage is that thescript will need to use addr2line to get the symbols, which meansthat every library will have to be loaded into memory(including``libxul``, which takes a bit).

When ASan discovers an issue it will simply print an error message andexit the app. To stop the app in a debugger before ASan exits it, set abreakpoint on __asan::ReportGenericError. __asan_describe_address(pointer) issued at the debugger prompt oreven directly in the code allows outputting lots of information aboutthis memory address (thread and stack of allocation, of deallocation,whether or not it is a bit outside a known buffer, thread and stack ofallocation of this buffer, etc.). This can be useful to understand wheresome buffer that is not aligned was allocated, when doing SIMD work, forexample.

I have noticed through a suspicious combination of both asan + static-stdlib + linux here though... We have seen various false positives on linux with such combinations -- and the 5.9 release without the static-stdlib does not reproduce the crash (though does report 2 leaks which I'd like to look into still). Might I ask checking if your system seems to run okey without static-stdlib and the sanitizer for the time being?

You can grab fresh Chrome binaries built with ASan here. The lists of ASan binaries are very long, but you can filter down to more specific releases by specifying a prefix like linux-debug/asan-linux-debug-83. This is useful for finding a build for a specific revision, since filenames are of the form asan--- (but not every revision has an archived ASan build). The get_asan_chrome helper script is a handy way to download builds; its --help flag provides usage instructions.

And finally, have fun with the out/Release/chrome binary. The filter script tools/valgrind/asan/asan_symbolize.py can be used to symbolize the output, although it shouldn't be necessary on Linux and Windows, where Chrome uses the llvm-symbolizer in its source tree by default.

Pipe chromium output (stderr) through tools/valgrind/asan/asan_symbolize.py `pwd`/ to get function names and line numbers in ASan reports. If you're seeing crashes within nacl_helper_bootstrap, try deleting out/Release/nacl_helper.

Use build/android/asan_symbolize.py to symbolize stack from adb logcat. It needs the --output-directory argument and takes care of translating the device path to the unstripped binary in the output directory. 2351a5e196
