Prof. Dr. Mohammad Asaduzzaman Chowdhury is a distinguished academic and researcher with over 24 years of interdisciplinary experience in advanced materials science, tribology, energy storage applications, coating technology, and nanotechnology. He is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Gazipur. A pioneer of tribology research in Bangladesh, he is globally recognized for his innovative contributions, including the development of novel MAX phases, borophene synthesis, and advanced energy storage materials. His expertise spans across engineering and materials science, with a focus on sustainable and cutting-edge technologies.
Dr. Chowdhury has authored over 250 publications, supervised 3 awarded PhD students and 41 MSc students, and holds memberships in prestigious organizations such as Sigma Xi, ASME, IMO3, and the Royal Society of Chemistry. Ranked among the top 2% scientists worldwide (2022–2024) by Stanford University, he has received numerous accolades, including an invitation to apply for the Eni Award (the "Nobel Prize of Energy Research"). A sought-after keynote and invited speaker at international conferences, he also serves as an editor, guest editor, and editorial board member for various engineering journals and books, reflecting his profound influence in academia and research.

Experiences (Responsibilities):
I have supervised nearly 250 undergraduate students and a significant number of postgraduate students (Ph.D., M.Sc., M.Engg.) in Mechanical Engineering, guiding them through their project and thesis work. Additionally, I have advised around 200 students, helping them develop their academic skills, confidence, and research-oriented mindset. To ensure the quality and novelty of research, I have been invited as an external expert for several thesis evaluations.
In terms of leadership and administrative roles, I have held several key positions at Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Gazipur. I have served as Course Coordinator for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. I have also been Secretary of the Syndicate, Member Secretary of the Academic Council, and Member Secretary of the Committee for Advanced Studies and Research (CASR). Additionally, I have been a member of the Tender Evaluation Committee and have chaired the Academic Committees for both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. I have served as Director (Research and Extension), including responsibility for transportation, and as Director of the Consultancy Research and Testing Service (CRTS).
In terms of governance, I have served as Syndicate Member (Nominated by the Honorable President, People’s Republic of Bangladesh), Chairman of the Executive Committee for the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and as a member of the Finance Committee, Planning & Development Committee, and Academic Council. I have also held various roles related to student welfare, including Hall Provost of Dr. F.R. Khan Hall, Associate Director of Students' Welfare, Deputy Director of Students' Welfare, and Chairman of the Campus Welfare Committee.
I have supervised M.Engg. and Ph.D. theses and served as Project Supervisor for various students. I have also been involved in student discipline as a member of the Student Disciplinary Committee and served on the Board of Trustees and Qualification Test Committees at DUET. Furthermore, I have contributed to strategic planning and governance through my membership in the Upgradation and Master Plan Committees.
I have served as Project Director for research grants financed by the University Grant Commission (UGC) and have been an expert member for several national and international organizations. I have chaired multiple international conferences and participated in various investigation committees, including the Organogram Review Committee. As the Principal Investigator of three UGC-funded research projects, I have contributed significantly to the advancement of research at DUET.
I have also served as an external examiner for postgraduate degrees both nationally and internationally. Additionally, I have been an expert member for professorship evaluations and have participated in the expert evaluation of research projects in the physical sciences under the Ministry of Science and Technology, Bangladesh. I have served as an Expert Member for the selection of professors and associate professors at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, and as an Expert Member for the selection of registrar and other equivalent officers at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Salna, Gazipur. I have also contributed to faculty selection committees at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology and Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, as well as serving as an Expert Member of the Examination of Research Work at the University of Malaya, Malaysia.
Furthermore, I have held several senior leadership roles at DUET, including Ex-Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Ex-Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Ex-Head of Industrial and Production Engineering, Acting Vice-Chancellor (Former), and Ex-Registrar (additional charge).
