Game Rules and Links

Links will take you to an online version of the games. During the day, if someone else is playing it, contact me PM on Stephanie 'Arwyn' Mortenson on FB or send me an email to Arwyn at arwynofleicester [at] gmail [dot] com. I will create another link for you to another room.

Alquergues

Alquergues also known as Quikat was mentioned in the Arabic manuscript _Kitab-al Aghani_, which dates back to 976 A.D. and is believed to be the precursor to checkers. So just like checkers, this is a game for 2 with our electronic board having black and red pieces. Otherwise, the normal rules are the same.

Backgammon

Modern backgammon came out of Table Games so we are considering it as a “medieval inspired” game. The electronic platform has a link that will create a new game for you. Once the link has been created, chat it to those in your break out room and they can join you to play or to watch.

Checkers

Like we said under Alquergues, it is the older version. However, checkers or draughts were also played and has a few variants. The modern version is available on our electronic platform that we are using. Once the link has been created, chat it to those in your break out room and they can join you to play or to watch.

Chess

Chess has many medieval variants. For simplicity, our electronic platform has the modern version. Once the link has been created, chat it to those in your break out room and they can join you to play or to watch.

Fox and Geese

Fox and Geese is one of the Talf games where battles are fought between two uneven sides. Our electronic board for 2 follows the normal game rules. Please return the pieces to the starting position in the bottom right at the end of the game for the next set of players.

Gluckhaus (House of Fortune)

Gluckhaus (House of Fortune) is a German gambling game played with a pair of six sided dice. Our electronic board can accommodate up to 8. The normal game rules are the same except for the electronic dice. Roll each die by clicking on the centre of the circles. The centre of the circle will display the die number.

Goose

Goose is a chase game for multiple players (2+). In the late 16th century, specific examples of this game emerged from Italy and assisted by the medium of printing, spread rapidly to other countries in Europe. Roll each die by clicking on the centre of the circles. The centre of the circle will display the die number. Although the normal rules have unlimited players, our electronic board is limited to 6 players. Because the board is somewhat small, the key spaces are listed here:

6 Bridge Move to space number 12

19 Inn Lose 2 turns (One drinking, one getting sober)

26 Dice Placement of playing piece if player rolls 6 & 3 on first roll

31 Well Lose 1 turn (Getting refreshing drink)

42 Maze Go back to space number 30 (Got lost in maze)

52 Prison Lose 1 turn (Arrested! What did you do?)

53 Dice Placement of playing piece if player rolled 4 & 5 on first roll

58 Skull You died!! Go back to starting point and begin again!!!!

63 Winning Point (Must land exactly on it.)

Laugh and Lie Down

Laugh and Lie Down is a pair matching card game similar but more complicated than “go fish” which is also available on our electronic platform. The normal game rules cheat sheet explains the general game play. Normally for 3-7 players; however we have restricted the game to 6 players on our electronic layout. To help with the platform, game play has been adjusted to:

Start of Game: Determine if you start with no money or a certain amount. Easiest is to start with 0. Otherwise use the + button to start the amount.

Dealer Identification: The yellow pawn piece can be placed by the dealer (important for scoring)

Player Turn Identification: Move the pin to the person whose turn it is. This indicates whose turn it is.

Out Player Identification: Click on the checker marker and turn it to the "king". This identifies who is "out".

Dealing: Deal like normal and take your cards into your hand (square at bottom of the page). Only that player sees the cards. Spectators can still watch but only see the cards on the “table” or the pairs in the card holders.

Laid down cards start or when player is out: Place them below the pair card holders (A-K)

Pair Card Holders: When a pair is played, place them on the appropriate card holder. So Pair of Aces would go on the A Card Holder. Record your pairs with your counter.

Scoring: Payout is the same as the rules and adjust the score.

Recalling and Shuffle Button: Recalls all the cards from the players or the table and autoshuffles them.

Nine Men's Morris/Merels

Merels is a simple board game for 2 people. Our electronic board has no modifications to the normal game rules. Please return the board with the game pieces to the sides so the next group can play.

Nyout

Nyout is a Korean horse racing board game for 2-4 players played with four (4) sticks which are each with 2 dark sides and 2 light sides. Our electronic board has been modified from the normal game rules with:

Each four (4) sided die will represent the stick. Dark sides will be the 1 and 3. Light sides will be the 2 and 4. Roll each die by clicking on the centre of the circles. The centre of the circle will display the die number.

HE Tayyibe really knows how to play this game.

Shut the Box

Shut the box is a simple gambling game usually for 2-4 players played with a pair of six sided dice. Our electronic board can accommodate up to 6. Normal game rules have been modified to:

Start of game: Determine how much money everyone starts with. Each player adjusts their bank counter to this amount with the + button.

Start of turn: Have all nine cards face up (represent 1-9 of the box)

Play: Roll each die by clicking on the center of the circles. The centre of the circle will display the die number. Click on card to turn over (shutting that number). Once the turn ends, player records their score on the score counter.

End of round: Determine who is the winner (lowest score) and losing players determine the payout to other players and add/deduct them from their bank using the + or - buttons.
