Eugène Samuel Grasset (May 1845 – October 1917) is a Swiss decorative artist who played a pioneering role in the  Art Nouveau movement. He lived in Paris during the Belle Époque or, The Beautiful Era (1871 - 1914). Born in Lausanne, Switzerland, Grasset diverse artistic career spanned furniture, wallpapers, ceramics, and jewelry, but he is best known for his graphic design, particularly in poster art. Influenced by Japanese art and his travels to Egypt, Grasset's work is considered a cornerstone of Art Nouveau motifs. His innovative approach to design embodies a fusion of form, function, and material; ivory, gold, and other precious materials permeate throughout his work.

Grasset taught design at a number of schools after 1890 including  the École Guérin, École d’Art graphique, Académie de la Grande Chaumière, and École Estienne in Paris. The typeface Grasset patented by Georges Peignot (October 1897) is based from Grasset's poster work.
