Hello! My name is Rylie Hegarty and I am an 18 year old Middlesex Community College freshman from Lowell, MA. I started Art Thou Neurodivergent as my senior project but quickly realized I wanted to continue with it. I have always been passionate about art and just creating things in general. I am also Autistic/ADHD! I look forward to expanding this project and creating a more inclusive art environment!
"This is a commentary on my experience as an Autistic person in school. It's a way oof healing myself and acknowledging the issues I faced. I want this piece to be relatable to both neurodivergent and neurotypical people."
"This is the first part of my series. It is meant to represent the explosion of life and the beginning. This is in the abstract expressionism style. This is the start of life of Dominica (my great grandmother)."
"The second work in my series is in the pointilism style. This is a recreation of my great-grandmothers home. I felt this was fitting because her nickname was Dottie."
"My third work in the series is using symbolism. In this I chose to have a somewhat vacant head. This is to show my great-grandmothers Alzheimers. Inside the head you can see small symbols that all connect to important parts of her life."
"My fourth and final work in this series symbolizes an ending. The style is surrealism. This work shows a picture I recreated of me sitting at her grave. It was the first time going to her grave since her funeral which was in twenty-twenty. I made my confirmation November twenty-twenty-two which was hard because she was always the one to keep me tethered to my reglion. It felt wrong to make it without her but this felt like a strong way to show that she's still with me."
"This piece is a study of the human eye and eyebrow. I tried to be proportionate to make it as realistic as possible."
"This piece shows how I feel as an autistic person when masking my autistic traits."
