Welcome to the Arts Chorale of Greater Lansing!
Read on to learn about us, our history, and where we are going from here!
Founded in 1980, the Arts Chorale of Greater Lansing is a volunteer community ensemble of experienced singers from the Greater Lansing area. The membership of the Arts Chorale is comprised of individuals who represent a wide variety of professional backgrounds and includes residents from Lansing, East Lansing, and other surrounding communities. Dr. Dale Bartlett, MSU Professor Emeritus of Music, directed the group from 1983 until his retirement in the Spring of 2025 and is our Director Emeritus.
Michael Huey-Jones joined the Arts Chorale as its director in the Spring of 2024. After years of teaching experience in Illinois and Iowa, Michael began his graduate studies at MSU in 2022, completed his master’s degree and is pursuing his Doctorate in Musical Studies. The accompanist of the Arts Chorale, for over 30 years, is well-known area musician Judy Kabodian.
The mission of the Arts Chorale of Greater Lansing is to provide concerts free of charge to the Greater Lansing area and to provide vocal opportunities for musicians in the community.
We are celebrating our 46th year as an ensemble, and we hope to continue our mission to bring the joy of music to the Greater Lansing community.
In 2000, the Arts Chorale of Greater Lansing established a scholarship program! We sponsor selected Michigan State University music students who participate in the Chorale. Through this program, the students gain experience in a community vocal group and, at the same time, provide their talents and expertise to Chorale members.
Our mission to provide free concerts for the community and scholarships for MSU vocal students is made possible by the generosity of our community! Donations from our patrons help us to sponsor our MSU scholarship students, provide professional instrumentalists to accompany us in our concerts, add new and exciting repertoire to our concerts, and more!
