Artist Statement
My goal as an artist is to bring more beauty into this world. Whether it's an original work or a custom commission for a client, I enjoy the unique challenge that each new board presents. Wood is a very versatile medium, sometimes my design leads the project, but other times the board's unique features inspire the artwork.
How I got started...
Years ago, I was making jewelry, and I bought a wood burner/soldering iron to try to make a new style of jewelry. It didn’t work out the way I had planned, and I shelved the tool for the next few years.
One day an image came to me of a woman surrounded by nature and animals. I saw the burner collecting dust on a shelf, I gave it a try and my new medium was born. I continue to work at this craft pushing myself with new types of wood and new techniques.
I entered my first large scale pyrography piece into the Clarksville Riverfest Juried Art Show in 2017 and ended up winning 1st place! A year later, I would submit the first piece I had ever burned (Woman of the Woods) and this piece would go on to win 2nd place for the medium and 2nd for the category. Since then, I have won many other awards, but most importantly I've had the pleasure of delivering custom pieces to clients across the country. It is the best feeling knowing you've made something that will be cherished for years to come!
