The visual and literary artist Ash Hooke (aka Angela Hill) has spent the last fourteen years educating and inspiring young humans with her teaching as a dedicated public educator and mentor.
She aspires to discover and share her unique perspectives and personal truth in her art and writing as well as in many aspects of her life; a passionate evolution that began as a small town Mormon girl, progressing to a young housewife and mother, then maturing into the independent queer agnostic anarchist she is today.
Her love for martial arts, nature, and endurance racing have become essential allegories for her life and work.
She is equal parts confessional and political poet; commenting fiercely on the issues and complications that touch her and those she loves, often framed in religious and psychological trauma. Finally, as a highly sensitive person, she approaches most everything with emotion and empathy seeking to truly feel, see, and understand the truths set before her.
As an artist, Ash Hooke explores nature from unique perspectives in her landscape and mural work, bringing poetry to life in her illuminated poem and chinese calligraphy, identity in her surreal self-portraiture, and the bond between animals and humans in her pet tribute pieces.
She is always trying new mediums and pushing the envelope of her vision through her art.

Illuminated poetry!
This piece began as a poem about our amazing immune system and developed into a parallel of the cheng and ch'i principles from Sun Tzu's Art of War commenting on the direct and indirect forces as work in our very bodies!
For future viewing of the gallery, tours can be scheduled with Eric Richardson, SAACA Programs Manager, at eric@saaca.org.
