Hybrid electric vehicles are powered by an internal combustion engine and one or more electric motors, which uses energy stored in batteries. A hybrid electric vehicle cannot be plugged in to charge the battery. Instead, the battery is charged through regenerative braking and by the internal combustion engine.
However, in most instances, a plug-in hybrid is less environmentally friendly than an electric vehicle (EV). In many instances, hybrids are even worse than the gasoline-powered vehicles they were meant to replace.
In the coming years, there will be less incentive to buy Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV)s for either convenience or price.
One of the main reasons people choose plug-in hybrids over EVs is the fact that hybrids usually have a greater range. Potential buyers want to reduce their carbon footprint, but they also want the convenience of being able to easily refuel their vehicle on a road trip.
