PROJECT BRIEF
SPECS:
You will create a package cover design for a cereal box. The name of the cereal is up to you, it could have a Radford theme, a political theme, a sports theme, animal theme, etc...be creative! You will create your own cartoonish mascot (like Tony the Tiger, Trix Rabbit, etc.). Aim the design at kids, not the geriatric fiber crowd. Research real cereal box designs and don't forget to add the little touches that make it look real. You may use a photo that YOU took of a cereal bowl full of "cereal", then use a clipping mask to knock out the part of the image you don't want. Just do the front, on a letter size document vertical. No Photoshop. I need to see a sketch first! Don't forget to trim your artwork to the artboard when you export as a png and resolution of at least 150 ppi.
Keys:
Successful composition depends on visual hierarchy , cool type, eye-catching design/Gestalt (must compete with the other hundred brands of cereal for little Johnny's attention!), additional "touches" that make the box look real (do your research and make notes while you are looking).
You will be creating JUST the box cover, not the sides or back, etc.
An interesting note about shoppers and cereal boxes. Another interesting site about cereal and all things packaging (ARTG 482).
Lots of kid's cereals here.
