Project 7 - App Emblem Logos/Splash Screen
For this project, you make up your own app. The app can be a new type of game, a utility type app, an info type app, a creative app, or just about anything else you can think of. It MUST be an original idea and deal with you and YOUR life. You will need to carefully think out the color palette, the textures and shapes, the typeface, and any other attributes that SPEAK to the cause at hand. Return to www.9surf.com and last weeks artist, study the emblem logos carefully, jotting down the traits they have such as how texture is used on the shapes, how the shapes relate to the type, how gradients are used, how the text is visualized, how metal looking stuff is created, how drop shadows are used, etc. Become a "student" of this technique FIRST! We did this in Illustrator but we now have many techniques available to us that we did not have earlier. I will need to see these things used: Gradient Overlay, Bevel, Outer Glow, Inner Glow, Pattern Overlay, (all of these Layer Styles) plus bring in some line art from Illustrator, or use some shapes from within Photoshop. You may use the text in PS or bring it in from Illustrator (on a curve, etc.), same with shapes. Place the logo on a textured background such as rock, wood, brushed metal etc., and add anything else you want to give it a completed look. Do a careful drawing to scan in and go by, this will be checked on Thursday and will not count unless its decently done. Finally, search for a template of a phone image to place your image and make a mockup so it looks real. Place to fit on a letter size document @ 150ppi vertical or horizontal (portrait or landscape).
Keys: Do a careful "deconstruction" of the work on 9Surf and what techniques he used to do them. Carefully create your drawing with notes and arrows showing what you plan on doing. In other words, create a solid game plan first then produce it in PS. Any images you use MUST be in the public domain! Once again, you may bring shapes or characters in from Illustrator if you find its easier to do. YOU ARE INVITED TO DO YOUR OWN ILLUSTRATIONS/ARTWORK FOR THESE BUT BE SURE IT'S 100% ORIGINAL...NO USING CHARACTERS THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN DONE! You may use Illustrator or Procreate to create any art work.
Good luck!
