T Logo Design: Stylization
We will begin lessons on and discuss the basic types of logos.
In this lesson, you will create a stylized (simplified) logo marks.
dx/Logo Design:Stylization
This is a 3 part exercise-
Using the "missing line" technique shown in class, use the green Gecko image to pen tool trace and create a new company of your choice with the gecko as a logo mark. Add the name of the made up product/company to complete the logotype.
Then use the "silhouette" technique to create a logo mark of a long horn steer (see images above) based on the pencil rendering (not the body, don't forget the star and maybe eyes, nose, or ear highlights). Add the restaurant name (Lone Star Steaks) to complete the logo.
Then pick an photo of something that helps describe you and pen tool trace it, then pick another image (unrelated to the first image but still has something to do with you and stylize them too) then use the figure ground principle we used last week and subtract one shape from the other then add your name or nickname to create a stylized logo for your self.
Place all three on the same page for checking off.
Expert Tip: Under the Width Tool we used last week are a lot of deformer tools that are fun and creative to use on shapes and type turned into shapes. Try them but beware, the more distorted the more anchor points which can slow down the image.
H Logo Design: Visual Puns & Ligature
dx/Logo Design:Visual Puns & Ligature
This is a two-parter.
Part one - Using these words: golf, families, artist, idea, eyewear, create a visual pun for each by utilizing a letter (or letters) to create a shape that relates to the word. You may use the typeface of your choice.
Part two - Following the process in the Before & After articles (located in the File Cabinet) on Logos of Letters and FigGroundLogo, create 5 combinations using your initials. When you combine the letters together to make a logo, it is known as ligature.
Put the visual puns on one page and the ligature on another.
Expert Tip: Under the Type Tool are other type options that you need to explore. Also when the type tool is selected, in the options bar on top, is a Make Envelope tool, also can be reached through the Effects menu under Warp. Be sure to be familiar with all of these text operatives as they will come in handy!
