As part of your course, you'll be conducting research for short essays and presentation exploring an aspect of design, history, binding, or a significant book artists' ouevre that is interesting to you.
To get started, try running a few keyword searches related to your area of interest (a technique, an artist's name) in Library Search (UCI Libraries), Melvyl (UC libraries & beyond), or Google Books (millions of scanned books). This page also includes several suggested titles to get you started, as well as subject headings to browse the libraries' collection.
