The book is split into four parts, with the beginning of each being the escape from the last, making it a very well-titled book. It's not an especially short book (over fifty chapters, which is pretty hefty for a teen read) but I flew through it. The story is compelling, the characters human (and therefore flawed) but unbelievably appealing, and the writing just drags you in and won't let you go. When Rowan finds out that posh employer Sha's real name is Sharon and finds this hilarious, I had to laugh because that was exactly what I was thinking. Ditto when the evil Coco shows up later on and Rowan is visibly disappointed, I was feeling pretty disappointed myself. When you are rooting for the characters so much that you want a happy ending for them as much as you want one for yourself, you know you're on to a good read.

That's when the story really gets going, as the girls, and Davinia's parents, jet off for 6 weeks in the sunshine. But 6 weeks is an awfully long time to do nothing really, just snooze in the sun by day and hang out in the island's meagre night spots in the evening. Davinia might be content with this sort of life, but Chloe soon gets restless and as she tries to take more of a stand and do her own thing the fabric of their friendship starts to come away and things get sticky fast as Davinia undergoes a Tempestian Sea Change.

As with so many of Kate Cann's books, there is a love story in the background, though this does not span the whole book, nor is it the only thing going on. However just as it's getting a bit frustrating this heats up quickly, exploding onto the pages towards the end, and was just what I needed to keep me reading on.

This book is good. It's exciting, enticing and energetic. It has a good, fluid story and some interesting characters, and it asks a lot of questions both of these characters and of the readers themselves.

Thank you to the publishers for sending this book. Also recommended by The Bookbag for girls of this sort of age are Good Girls if you want another meaty story, or The Boy Book if you want something a bit more frivolous but equally fun.

I picked this up in a bargain bin somewhere as the cover caught my eye and the story outline on the back seemed interesting. Crow Girl is a short (very short) novel that explores themes of self image, bullying, and revenge.

The last installment of the Love Trilogy will keep listeners engrossed in the relationship troubles of multiple characters as they cope with misunderstanding, unexpressed yearnings, and growing up. Focusing mainly on Coll, this teen drama not only tackles issues such as sex and abortion, it also looks at what it means to be a friend when someone is no longer enjoyable to be around. Listeners who prefer dialogue to description will find this story particularly entertaining. Nicky Talacko's delivery of Coll's internal monologues and spirited exchanges with other characters is true to life and convincing. Her characterizations of teen angst and heartbreak will have listeners moving through a range of emotions as the story comes to its conclusion. I really benefitted from the detailed feedback Sarah gave me on my manuscript. And not only that but her encouraging response to the story gave me a confidence boost when I really needed it. So grateful for that!

I was really pleased I contacted Sarah at The Lighthouse. The manuscript assessment was excellent: sharp, insightful and packed full of helpful suggestions. All of these have made my story so much stronger, and her encouragement and enthusiasm were really appreciated.

Though weed is riding a wave of popularity since it became legal in many states, cannabis is still seen as a rather unorthodox mom-tool. But after numerous scientific studies proving its effectiveness as therapy for a number of mental health disorders and for everyday stress as well, more and more moms are jumping on the weed wagon, and more and more celebrity moms are using their platforms not only for legalization advocacy but as a means to normalize its use.

Badu has been a vocal cannabis advocate ever since her first album, Baduizm, dropped back in 1997 and was one of the headliners of Weedmaps Higher Together concert, a COVID-era virtual celebration of April 20, the unofficial stoner holiday.

Though it may be surprising to some, the actor cum luxury, wellness, and lifestyle guru is a cannabis fan. Paltrow, who shares her two kids Apple and Moses with Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, has used her Goop platform to not only hawk CBD products but also to speak up about the importance of cannabis as medicine.

Madonna has been breaking rules and pushing boundaries since her debut album made her a superstar in 1983. She is the proud mother of six kids and has been vocal about her cannabis use for years. For her 62nd birthday, she even celebrated in Jamaica with a joint and a huge tray of bud.

Whoopi Goldberg is a self-described activist who stands up for what she believes in, and one of those things is access to cannabis. In an op-ed the mother of one penned for the Orange County Register, Goldberg championed weed as medicine and touted her love for the vape pen she uses to treat her glaucoma.
