Opportunities

Prospective Graduate Students: The Arsenault Freshwater Ecology Lab at SUNY-ESF invites inquiries from prospective graduate students (MS or PhD). Willingness to conduct field work in a remote setting, resourcefulness, attention to detail, persistence, and ability to make connections and integrate ideas across disciplines and perspectives are some of the traits that may lead to success in this work. Prospective lab members must be willing to contribute positively to upholding an inclusive environment for all in the field and lab. Cranberry Lake (and its surrounding rivers, streams, and ponds) will be focal research sites for our group. Prospective students should expect to conduct some portion of their graduate work at ESF's Cranberry Lake Biological Station (CLBS), which is located ~2.5 hours from Syracuse in the NY Adirondacks (learn more about CLBS here).

If you are interested in joining my lab, please send me an email (emarsena@esf.edu) to introduce yourself. Your introduction might address the following: Why are you interested in working in my lab? What motivates you to pursue a graduate degree? What areas of freshwater ecology excite you? Please include a recent CV or resume with your inquiry. The application deadline for fall admission to the graduate program at SUNY-ESF is January 15. Learn more about the graduate programs offered here and how to apply here.

Cranberry Lake Biological Station Research: Research opportunities are expanding at the Cranberry Lake Biological Station (CLBS). Our campus offers easy access to remote Adirondack wilderness, with lodging and dining opportunities, May through October. We are particularly interested in supporting and incentivizing research opportunities for students and early career scientists, especially those that can contribute to our broader aquatic and terrestrial monitoring programs. To learn more about our campus, facilities, and funding opportunities, please visit our updated website, and feel free to reach out.

Other Collaborations and Inquiries: Please feel free to send me email (emarsena@esf.edu) or call my office (315-470-6805). I look forward to meeting you!
