Thanksgiving 2019
Thanksgiving in Arrowhead
Rob and Diane invited us all to enjoy their mountain retreat for Thanksgiving day; dinner and sleepover. Weather reports were unavoidable: it was to be record smashing storm, due to hit on Wednesday and continue through Friday, with Thursday's Thanksgiving Day in Arrowhead right in the crosshairs of the snowfall, 3,000 feet and above.
The reports turned out to be accurate. As our families all debated the pros and cons, most of us made the journey up Highway 18, installing chains as required. It was magical and harrowing all at once. But when we arrived, with loads of food for a Thanksgiving feast, we celebrated family: safe and warm.
Power lines could not bear the weight of the heavy snow. Somewhere late afternoon the power went out, and remained out through Friday. We managed without cell connection or WIFI, and embraced the moments by a crackling fire and candlelight with long, laughter-filled conversation.
It was indeed a weekend for the memory books, to be cherished for a lifetime.
Thank you to all!
Ken
